Case Study: Articulate Magazine
Challenge
Rocky Vista University sought to create a publication that would highlight the voices of its students while reflecting the unique interplay between medical education, research, and the arts and humanities. The project, a collaboration with the RVU Writing Center, needed a design that could unify diverse types of student work into a cohesive, professional publication.
Process
Working closely with the Writing Center, I developed the layout and visual design for Articulate, RVU’s student publication. Submissions included a wide range of genres—ethics and perspective essays, case reports, research projects, and creative writing pieces. My role was to:
- Design the publication layout, balancing readability with an engaging visual structure.
- Create a design system that highlighted the academic rigor of medical and research writing while also celebrating creative expression.
- Use typography, spacing, and imagery to draw connections between medicine, scholarship, and the arts.
Outcome
The final publication presented student work in a polished, professional format that honored both their academic contributions and creative voices. Articulate became a showcase of RVU’s commitment to integrating the humanities into medical education, while offering students a platform to share their research, reflections, and artistic expression.
